The Way Of Purity are a band wrapped in large part by the mystery, which this year debuted with the album "Crosscore". From Worm Hole Death (local label which has under contract the band) comes the news that the band has hired a new singer, the Norwegian Tiril Skårdal. Today on Aristocrazia Webzine we are pleased to know her better.
Hi Tiril, how are you?
Tiril: Hello! I'm great thank you! Full of energy and new experiences after our gig in Romania!
Let's start the interview asking how do you came in contact with The Way Of Purity. How did the collaboration born?
I have been in the project since the beginning, I was not on stage but the band members asked me to cooperate on some ideas due to the lyrics. When the singer, xBettyx, decided to leave the band the guys asked me to be their new singer.
What are your goals and your stimulus towards this new adventure?
I don't think I can begin to imagine where this musical journey will lead me. I haven't yet realized what I have gotten myself into! But to be honest I hope that this will give me a carrier within music, that's my dream.
You came from a country that was one of the cornerstones in the history of extreme music. What do you think about the past and the present Norwegian metal scene?
The history of black metal in Norway is famous for its extreme 'cults' and actions like burning churches and murders. We all really like band like Darkthrone, Burzum, Emperor, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Enslaved. The good things that's Norwegian black metal bands have done in my opinion is that brutal assault to the christian church and interests in conquering a country that has nothing to share with that because of our ancient history. Now days the metal scene in Norway is not that extreme anymore, but growing in forms of festivals like Inferno, Norway Rock, Hole In the Sky, Hove Festival etc.
Also in this respect, what are your preferences in music?
To be honest my iPod contains everything; from all kinds of metal to the newest hits on the radio. Within metal I prefer bands like Arch Enemy, Lamb of God, In This Moment, Malefice etc. but I also like band like Kaizers Orchestra (my favorite Norwegian band), Marilyn Manson and Prodigy.
The last three albums that you are listened to?
Lamb Of God – Wrath; Interpol – Turn On The Bright Lights; Stielas Storhett – Skd.
What are your main inspirations in your role as a singer? Is there any artist from whom you were particularly influenced?
I get inspiration from playing with the guys, from reading the newspaper, form talking to my friends. The everyday life and the ups and downs that comes along with it. It might not occur too me at once, but I can wake up in the middle of the night and think about something that happened earlier that day – and then write 4 lines and go back to sleep. It's weird but that's how it's works.
Reading some information about you, it seemed to understand that you are part of a religious sect. Can you tell us something about this?
I'm a member of The Norwegian Humanist Association. The ideology is simple; the things we experience in our lives – in the here and now – are the main basis of the humanist life stance. Our joys and sorrows, the challenges we meet and fellowship with others, give our lives meaning without the need of neither religion nor hopes for an eternal life. Our views on what is right and wrong, good and evil, spring from our sense of empathy and mutuality. This enables human beings across barriers of culture, politics and religion, to share notions of tolerance and human worth and to develop the ideas of liberty and equality, as they are expressed in the "Declaration of Human Rights". These ideals form the basis of humanism.
The Way Of Purity are a very enigmatic band, mainly because of the "ritualistic" component which seems to hide behind the musical side. How do you are personally against this?
The ritualistic components for The Way Of Purity are fully expressed trough the film that we have done if you are referring to this. Of course what you can see in the film is what we think about fanaticism in religion.
What was your reaction the first time you listened to "Crosscore"?
The first time I listened to "Crosscore" I was scared. I thought is was very brutal, but after listening to the album a few times I really liked it, now I listen to it all the time.
Who is the Tiril in everyday life?
I'm your girl next door. The normal Norwegian girl with friends and family, hobbies and interests like everyone else.
What can we expect from the near future of The Way Of Purity?
Right now we are working on the new EP called "Biteback", if everything goes as planned you will be able to listen to this is January. We're also planning a European Tour together with a bigger band.
The interview is over. After thanking you and making you the best greetings for your new artistic path, I leave you the last word for a final message to our readers.
Thank you so much for supporting The Way Of Purity and helping us to spread the message. All the best.
