BEASTLURKER – Sanguine Elixir Of Psychotropic Divination
«Chicago Black Death Cacophony», says Sanguine Elixir Of Psychotropic Divination‘s back of the booklet, and it is clear from the first notes how much the words chosen by Beastlurker to describe their music correspond to reality.
With their debut EP the band from Chicago do nothing but scream in clear letters and very high volume to have got into the loop too, to be part of that large circle of cultured people filling the metallic undergrowth to the sound of at times dissonant black-death and hallucinated reflections. The latter are probably the most particular part of Beastlurker‘s work, which between a “Judas Goat” and an «overbearing aroma of a tower of shit» (“Nest Of Squalor “) end up making us smile.
Four songs for a running time of a little more than twenty minutes are certainly not a wide repertoire, but they are more than enough to make it clear that the American trio has bad taste to sell and a fair sensitivity in the construction of the songs which, in addition to the standard bone grinder riffs, they give us a solo here, some vague black’n’roll influence there, all always seasoned to the sound of blast beat and ready for blasphemy. In short, nothing that changes your day and makes you hail as a miracle, but without doubt a respectable business card for a novice band, or maybe little more.
Further points in Beastlurkers favor are the illustration by Khaos Diktator Design and the ability to make it sound good live in the worst stars and stripes taverns, despite the uncomfortable three-way formation with a drummer-singer. A good the intuition by Godz Ov War to give visibility to these guys, now we lie in wait for them with a more substantial effort.
